Dawn of the Dead: Remake « Thread Started on Apr 3, 2004, 4:22pm »
The movie was very good, better than Resident Evil, and I liked Resident Evil. It was fast paced, had good actors, and a good storyline which had no more flaws than you would expect from a good zombie flick. I mean sure, smart people would've stayed in the mall, but then again, that wouldn't made for an interesting movie.
As compared to the first Dawn of the Dead, the remake is strikingly different, but is obviously meant for a different generation. The original was a slower movie. The zombies slowly shambled forward in a movie that had a slow but stead pace. The remake's zombies are fast but work well with the fast pace of the movie, which is obviously been made for a generation of "fast-food" consumers.
From what I've heard, a lot of people who loved the original found faults with the remake, and vice-versa. I like both of them. The only real resemblance is that they both have zombies and a mall.
Since it's been successful (it was number one box office the first week) I'm curious if that will drive the producers to make a remake of Day of the Dead, the one movie in the dead trilogy that really needed to be remade. Day of the Dead had a great premise, but I felt it could've been done more effectively. I also remember reading the original script for Day (which is nothing like the movie) and assuming the people from the remake of Dawn survived, there's a possibility the story could pick up into that screenplay.

Hey dusty the remake was good but i prefer the original. www.homepageofthedead.com has the original script for Day plus the original script from dawn. Not much changed in dawn except for the very end.

I have to agree with moo. Having just watched the extremely pricey remake, and not being impressed, I feel that zombie movies are best left to the person with the least amount of money and the most imagination.

Don't get me wrong. I like the orginal DAWN, best zombie flick ever. But I'm glad to see that people are trying to make new generation zombie movies, because for a while there was nothing.
And to counter your statement Josh, in which zombie movies should be made by people with the least amount of money? Go watch Night of the Zombies. Yikes.

Zombie movies should be made by george romero, has nothing to do with money
Well he is making a new one called Land of the Dead. Basically it centers around a walled in city, and a few people from said city go out in huge tanks killing zombies and stuff.

I didn't really feel like I got enough out of the previews to make a judgement. I'll watch it. Then again, I would've watched it regardless of how the trailer looked.
